The most accurate way to describe this part of the journey is to compare it to whitewater rafting. The river is getting faster and faster, with very few “eddies” to stop and rest. As we continue, there are some really rocky sections, and other sections that we can pull off and recover for a minute or two. Some of us are about to go over the side of the raft, although most of us are hanging on for our lives.
On one hand, training is slowing down and we are often getting out of classes early. On the other hand, we have received some information about our first spike for round one, and need to prepare with every minute we can grab. Eat, sleep, PT, class, paperwork, and very little time to recuperate and keep in contact with back home.
I spent most yesterday catching up on sleep, after a full Saturday of service work in community gardens. I will most likely go into more detail on this at a later date, but for now feel free to check out www.synergychef.com and rawchocolatelove.blogspot.com to see the work of one of our site supervisors.
Ever since Friday morning of PT, I have been having pain in my knees, and will go get it checked out tomorrow morning at “sick call.” Until then, I am trying to take an easy.
We found out our team positions on Friday of last week; I am the Media Representative and a secondary Corps Ambassador Program Representative for my time. We also found out our spike project Saturday night; more on that to come later. We had training today for our positions which was quick and easy.
So what do we do for our team positions? Mostly paperwork. There are seven to ten things that I have to fill out for each of my positions. However, I understand that Congress reviews all this paperwork, so it is important in order to continue funding for AmeriCorps NCCC.
Hopefully, I will be posting more information about our first spike soon. I am going to wait until I have more information; I do not even know if we will have cell phone coverage or internet access yet.
